The Climate Challenge: Make or Break in Copenhagen?

The 15th Conference of the Parties under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, popularly known as COP-15, will convene on 7-18 December 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, to strike a new global climate consensus. But will it succeed? What is actually at stake here? What are the issues and challenges in COP-15?  How can Indonesia contribute to these efforts?

Speakers:

  1. Ambassador Martin Hatfull of The United Kingdom will present a visual map showing the dire consequences to human civilization if the global average temperature rises by 4° Celsius;
  2. Ambassador Børge Petersen of Denmark will explain why forging a new global consensus at COP-15 in Copenhagen would be an excruciatingly difficult task; 
  3. Ambassador Eivind Homme of Norway will explain how his country intends to achieve a carbon-neutral economy by 2030;
  4. Dr. Amanda Katili Niode (Special Staff to the State Minister of Environment) will talk about how Indonesia can be an integral part of the global climate solution.
